Police in Snohomish County have made extra efforts to crack down on DUIs in the area. In fact, just fifteen minutes after having officers emphasize DUIs, Snohomish County Sheriffs made their first DUI arrest.

John Axtman has been a Washington State Patrol trooper for 13 years, and he had the following to say about the increased efforts to arrest DUI suspects, “I definitely see the partnership growing each year and I think that goes to the public's benefit when we all work together.”

Officers from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol were joined by officers from Everett PD, Marysville PD, Lake Stevens PD, Mountlake Terrace PD, Monroe PD, and the WA Liquor and Cannabis Board. The statewide campaign to combat DUIs was named “Night of a Thousand Stars.”

Earlier in the month, the Target Zero Task Force acknowledged a patrol of five state troopers who were responsible for 1,023 DUI arrests this year. In 2017, the same task force made less than 900 DUI arrests.

The arrests made during Night of a Thousand Stars were dedicated to Josie Lundquist, a woman who was hit by a DUI suspect on November 30. The Snohomish County Target Zero Task Force tweeted, “Tonight's patrol is dedicated to Miss Josie who was hit by an alleged DUI driver last week and severely injured. She is recovering at Harborview. We are taking DUI's off the road in her honor.”

According to the Washington State Patrol, there have been 14,897 DUI arrests across the state. The Target Zero Task Force will patrol for DUIs for the rest of December.
