In light of 2016 being recorded as perhaps the deadliest year for drunk driving deaths, the City of Seattle and Uber are joining forces to help cut down DUI-related arrests and accidents. According to KIRO 7 News, national statistics estimate that an average of 28 people a day are killed in DUI crashes. The ride-sharing app is offering special discounts on some rides in the hopes that individuals going to and from bars will utilize Uber, as opposed to getting behind the wheel after drinking.
During the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve last year, Washington state troopers placed more than 1,200 people under arrest for DUI related offenses. Drivers who wish to take advantage of Uber's discount rate can get $10 off on Uber Pool trips by using the code SAFESTART2017 on the Uber app between 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 5 a.m. on New Year's Day.
