The increase in patrols this year comes as just the latest step in an effort by the Washington state troopers to reduce serious injuries or fatalities from traffic collisions to zero by the year 2030. This is a long way from coming true, however, as the number of fatalities involving intoxicated motorists has jumped by 87% in just the past five years.

According to Washington State Patrol, the most dangerous drivers are t hose who are under the influence of various drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol. State troopers have re-emphasized that buzzed or high driving is the same as drunk driving, and will also result in an arrest.
